RE

Religious Education at North Marston CE School enables every child to flourish and to live life in all its fullness. RE promotes tolerence and respect while encouraging all to live well together.  As a Church school RE has a high profile and helps to embed our Christian values and our vision to 'Shine our light to be our best selves’.

RE help the children and adults to develop an understanding of their own and others’ worldviews. These world-views may be based on religious or non-religious beliefs that they will encounter in modern Britain. We believe that RE is a vital component to a child’s personal, social, and spiritual development and helps build empathy and respect. The children continuously develop their religious literacy and questioning skills, so that by the end of their time at North Marston they can engage in meaningful and considered dialogue with those of all faiths and none.  In RE pupils learn about Christianity, other religions and worldviews so that they can understand the world better and develop their own sense of place within it.

At North Marston CE School RE is taught using an enquiry approach supported by the Jigsaw RE scheme of work and in line with Bucks Agreed Syllabus for RE 2022. Each class learns about Christianity and one other world view. Staff ensure there is a balance between Theology, Philosophy and Human Sciences when exploring worldviews. They carefully choose resources so that pupils understand that the religions they study are worldwide.

Due to our mixed classes RE is taught in a two year cycle:

Cycle A

Rubies - festivals and stories - focus on Christianity and other faiths to reflect the cohort and community

Opal - Christianity and Judaism

Diamond - Christianity and Judaism

Sapphires - Christianity, Hinduism and Humanism

Cycle B

Rubies - festivals and stories - focus on Christianity and other faiths to reflect the cohort and community

Opal - Christianity and Islam

Diamond - Christianity and Hinduism

Sapphires - Christianity and Islam

Children develop their skills using these three disciplines:

Theology (believing)

Philosophy (thinking)

Human Social Science (living)

Theology- believing

Philosophy - thinking

Human Social/Sciences - living

Christianity

We are very fortunate that St Mary's church is open daily so that we can take classes across to visit as part of a lesson. Rev Petra has also been into school to support staff to explain more traditions related to the Anglican church.

Judaism

Rabbi Zvi visited school to support Reception and Year One better understand Shabbat and the lay out of a synagogue. He then spoke to Diamond class about Shavuot and answered their questions to gain a deeper understanding of what it means to be Jewish on a daily basis.

Hinduism

Resources ready for Rubies to make their own rangoli patterns. This was one of the activties they engaged in when learning about Diwali.

Diamonds used salt and water to try to understand the concept of Brahman being everywhere and in everything.

Islam

Opals thought about how Muslims show their respect to Allah and how this links to our school value of respect.

Rubies learnt about the importance of Ramadan and Eid to Muslims. They discussed that many festivals involve special food, new clothes, prayer and spending time with family.

Humanism

Sapphires discussed how Charles Darwin, Albert Einstein and Alice Roberts might inspire a Humanist.
