Home Learning in Reception
Phonics
In reception we use the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised Phonics scheme. Each week you will receive a sheet via their book bag explaining the phonemes that have been taught that week, together with the rhymes to help them form the graphemes. It will also give you examples of words and sentences that have been read in class using the new phonemes as well as the tricky words we are focusing on that week. Please review these at home and practise writing using a variety of media, this could be using felt tips on large paper, chalks on the pavement or water and paint brushes on the shed. Reading
Please read regularly with your child. The books that they bring home are the ones that they have chosen and while they may not always match their reading level exactly they will give opportunities for creating conversations about vocabulary and building skills on comprehension, as well as decoding the words. The children will bring home another book, which is linked to their phonic knowledge and key word progression. These books will have been read with your child at school and this is a chance for them to improve their fluency as they should only need to decode a few of the words.
The children will also visit the school library at least once a week and will bring home a book to share with you on a Tuesday.
