Moving to 'big school' is an important step in your child's school career. We try to start to make this transition as easy as possible for your child by giving your child time to develop the skills and confidence they need. In Buckinghamshire Early Years practioners from local settings and schools meet together regularly. One of the many benefits of this group is to agree simple goals that will help with transition and settling into reception.

At North Marston we are privileged to have a close relationship with Schorne Pre-school. This year, staff from both settings have visited the other to share stories. The older children from pre-school have attended stay and play sessions with their key workers and watched the school Nativity Play. These and other events later in the year enable the children to become more familiar and confident about starting school in September. In the Summer Term Reception staff make contact with the children's current setting and where possible visit them there. Parents are invited to attend a stay and play session with their child prior to transition day. By having conversations with your child over the summer you will hopefully be able to address any worries and ensure joining Ruby class is something to look forward to. Extra visits and meetings can be facilitated should the need arise.
